Ever since I left my previous job, my old colleagues and I have met up for dinner on the first Monday of the month. I see most of them outside of this dinner as well, but sometimes time gets away from us and the dinner at least means we won’t go more than a month without catching up.
To make the dinners slightly more interesting, we are working our way through alphabet when it comes to picking a restaurant. Last Monday we were up to ‘F’ – so we headed to The Fitz on Brunswick St in Fitzroy. I had walked past numerous times, but seeing the mass amount of people outside drinking I had just assumed it was a pub, not a restaurant. So, I was pleasantly surprised when I the menu seemed to offer a wide array of delicious choices (and even quite a few vegetarian options on there).
I ended up going with one of the specials; ricotta gnocchi with roasted zucchini, tomato and a pesto sauce -
- and boy, was it delicious. The serving size was massive, but I just couldn’t stop eating. The gnocchi was beautifully firm, but not stodgy, and the light pesto sauce complimented it perfectly.
All my friends were as equally impressed with their dishes (the braised beef, the chicken tagine and the chicken risotto – all on their regular menu) so I wouldn’t hesitate heading back for another meal – perhaps when it is a little warmer and you can sit outside and enjoy the Brunswick St view.

oh my gosh. picking out restaurants alphabetically – genius! me and bf are always stuck for ideas for restaurants to go to and we always end up going to the same ones… so i really like this idea! haha!
and omg that gnocchi looks amazing… ahhh stop making me hungry!! lol
Yeah we have really enjoyed it as well – really helps with that ‘too many restaurants to choose from, so we don’t choose at all’ dilemma. It is a lot easier to choose somewhere new when you narrow your choices down.
The gnocchi was tasty, pity it is only 930am, and really not appropriate time to eat lunch yet, boo!
