Two years ago today this:
used to be this:

It is Bailey’s second birthday! We shall be celebrating tonight with a can of tuna and many scrunched up pieces of paper to chase around!
Red Honeycomb Bow Tie Dog Collar by SillyBuddy on etsy
I have a great urge to buy this collar for my cat Bailey (you can get it in small sizes, and considering Bailey is a large cat it could work). However Bailey may not appreciate…
Now I know I like cats more than the average person (I swear I am not crazy though) but I think these bookends are would go well on my shelf:

cat bookends from Urban Attitude
And maybe if cats aren’t your cup of tea you’d go for some dogs instead:
spaniel bookends from hart & heim

pug bookends from brown button trading
They’re all so cute!
on the subject of cats, my cat Bailey had his first birthday a few months back, however the year anniversary of me picking him up from the breeder is coming up in a few weeks, which had me looking back at the bundle of fur that he used to be:
The first image I received from the breeder of bailey and his mum – not sure which one he is though
This was the photo I received when I had to choose a kitten – the three at the back were all blue points, and the one at the front (Bailey) was the only seal point. I loved both the blue and seal colourings, but I thought Bailey had a cheeky smirk in this photo, so he won out.)
The first non blurry photo I got of him when I brought him home. He was three months old here.
This was only a few days after I brought him home – fell straight asleep in Phil’s arms – which were then rendered useless for playing playstation.
Bailey in the only cat related toy/furniture I have bought him that he enjoys – his Ikea rattan bed/scratching post. It’s amazing that after all the toys you buy, he still prefers scrunched up bits of paper – bless him.
What better place to lounge than the laptop in the sun…
Bailey today – he certainly has grown a fair amount – being a male ragdoll puts him in the large cat category compared to other cats, but he’s still just as cuddly!
I realise no one else loves my cat as much as me – but I am just amazed at how much time has passed, and how much bigger he has grown over the past year – and if I am to listen to the vet, he still has a bit to grow yet!
no food posts this week unfortunately! My beautiful oven has given up the ghost (i suspect a burnt out element) and therefore for food for this week is all re-runs of previous posts, whilst trying to avoid anything that requires baking. However in the absence of cooking I have been busy trying to be handy!
My coffee table from ebay finally arrived – it cost a whopping $30, I was so pleased with the find. After some light sanding, staining and polishing, it looks right at home in my living room. Step one of my master floor plan is complete!
Although the glass is going to be high maintenance to keep clean, it allows the space to look bigger as it doesn’t block the view through the room.
I also took the weekend to complete some outdoor decorating. My deck outside is split on two levels. The main deck is on the upper level and is completed with decking tiles. The lower level is only a small area to accommodate the stairs. This small area was just concreted and seemed to collect all the dirt and water. I headed out to bunnings and invested in 4 decking tiles – after some small adjustments (i.e. some hack sawing to make them fit) I am left with this:
The grand plan is to create a planter box on the right to fill the gap – but it’s a vast improvement to grungy concrete!
Bailey was checking out the improvements with me.
Hopefully the oven will be back next week and I can get back into the kitchen!
I returned back to Melbourne early this morning after a week and half of blissful relaxing with the family back in Perth and in Kalbarri (photos to come in a later post) – to a rather chaotic Sunday. My beautiful 9 month old Ragdoll kitten was blocked up with a cold, sneezing all over the place and breathing quite heavily, my bf Phil was up all night with a case of suspected food poisoning, and then after all that, my hail damaged car was assessed to be a write-off. So now I no longer have a car (they have to take it off you right away), a sickly bf and a sneezing cat, a crazy day, leading onto what I am sure will be a crazy week at work catching up on all my work and figuring out how to get everywhere without a car!
the first book of the rank – the shining by Stephen King.
the book and the cat
I had seen the Jack Nicholson movie years and years ago – and all I could recall from it was the famous ‘here’s johnny’ scene, probably because it has been referenced in a lot of other popular culture. I knew Stephen King’s books were supposed to be scary, but I never believed that a book could be scary, but I must say this book certainly does get under your skin. It tells the story of Danny, the son of Jack Torrance, a disgraced lecturer forced to take a job at a the Overlook Hotel. The book explores the winter that the family is cut off in the Hotel due to the winter blizzards – the hotel is haunted with its past guests, that they slowly reveal themselves to Danny, with their purpose to kill him.
All in all, the book truly did give me shivers – even the cynic in me was feeling the horror of the paranormal activity in the hotel. This book well deserves a spot on the 1001 list – I couldn’t put it down, mainly because I had to find out the end before I freaked myself out too much! A highly recommended book – even if you have seen the movie.
