long weekend plans: how did I go?

It is nearing the end of the work day and it seems like the long weekend never was. However, looking back at my planned to-do list I didn’t do too badly:

  1. Picking a sewing project from my numerous unmade patterns (#4) - not quite done yet – I’ll make sure I do it tonight!
  2. Make home-made gnocchi (I have been told it is quite easy, and they’re freezable, so best to make in bulk – this will also help out #15) – Well I made the gnocchi, but immediately froze it as I still had leftovers to get through – unfortunately I didn’t realise you needed to freeze them first on a tray, and then you can put them in a bag – putting them straight into a bag results in a mass of dough – pretty useless for dinner. sigh. I will have to try again.
  3. Plan and start my DIY canvas art project (#6). I am heading to Doncaster on the weekend to check out Daiso – a 100 yen store (like $2 shop but japanese version) – so I will have to head to the Riot Art to get some supplies. (or maybe I should make my own juju hat) – Tried one idea for the DIY art, need to try a few more options before committing to a big canvas though.
  4. Start a budget – yawn – but I think it is necessary. I believe I am spending a lot of my money on frivolous things, and would like to get control of it. I am sure there is a fancy Mac app I can download to make this easier. – I did start to try, then it got too hard, I will need to try to re-tackle it again soon.

So not bad for a three day weekend. I also bought a few goodies at the Daiso store in Doncaster, I should have those up later tonight.

How was your long weekend? Did you get what you planned done?

long weekend plans

This weekend’s long weekend has crept up on me – I forgot it was coming. Even so, I have taken some of today’s lunch to think about what to do, what could I get accomplished (I like to have plans – even if they never eventuate).

Even thinking about these potential plans has led me to cross a few things off today – I have phoned the Red Cross to book in for a blood donation next week (#21 on my list), ordered some moisturizer from ebay (which I am in dire need of, my face feels like a desert) and submitted my application to the Pets Haven for some volunteer work (# 12).

My plans for the long weekend however contain:

  1. Picking a sewing project from my numerous unmade patterns (#4)
  2. Make home-made gnocchi (I have been told it is quite easy, and they’re freezable, so best to make in bulk – this will also help out #15)
  3. Plan and start my DIY canvas art project (#6). I am heading to Doncaster on the weekend to check out Daiso – a 100 yen store (like $2 shop but japanese version) – so I will have to head to the Riot Art to get some supplies. (or maybe I should make my own juju hat)
  4. Start a budget – yawn – but I think it is necessary. I believe I am spending a lot of my money on frivolous things, and would like to get control of it. I am sure there is a fancy Mac app I can download to make this easier.
Not sure if they’ll be anything else yet – I am sure I’ll get some socialising and a lot of eating in there somehow…do you have any plans for the long weekend yet?

long weekend

Sorry for the lack of posts – I have had a rather uneventful, but quite enjoyable long easter/anzac weekend break. I’ll hopefully have some after shots for my laundry this afternoon, as it should be finished off today.

Hope you all had a fantastic break – and work isn’t seeming to hard this morning.

perth eatings

As promised here are some pictures of my eatings over my long weekend:

delicious caramel hot chocolate from choc block in karrinyup

the scrumptious chicken katsu from edo in subiaco (all that for just $9)

fish and chips from our local shop – eating it the way its supposed to be eaten – still on the paper!

eggs benedict from the karrinyup golf club

and although I left a few days too early, a special note to a special someone:

Happy Birthday Mum!!

heading out west

Tonight I am heading back home for a long weekend and I can’t wait! Although I’ll be getting in at midnight Perth time (three am Melbourne time) I imagine I will be full of energy, just excited to be back home. Although I have been in Melbourne two years now, and have even bought my own house here, I still call Perth home, maybe more because it’s where all my family is.  The weekend is fairly unplanned as the thing I love best about going home is just relaxing at our house, and being around my brother and parents.  Although some must do’s for when I go home to Perth include:

  • Buying some Biltong from the South African shop. Not many South African expats seem to make it over to Melbourne, which results in a severe lack of good Biltong here – Perth has heaps of good South African stores so I will definitely be chowing down all I can eat whilst I am there
  • Eating Fish & Chips – no fish & chips in Melbourne have yet to come close to the deliciousness of the fish at our local fish and chip shop back in Perth
  • Visit Shoe Show – I am sure I just haven’t found the equivalent yet in Melbourne, but Shoe Show in Perth is a chain of stores that carry brand name shoes (think I Love Billy to Tony Bianco) for cheaper prices. It is always good to pop in there when I am in Perth and see if any good bargains are to be had
  • Head to Edo in Subiaco for a Chicken Katsu Bento Box – best chicken katsu I’ve ever had! And so reasonably priced, I highly recommend you pop in and grab any one of their bento boxes for a lunch or a takeaway dinner.
  • Visit Karrinyup shopping centre – I worked in this shopping centre for over 3  years whilst at Uni, and love to pop in to see what has changed. It also has a really great range of shops now, so perfect for a quick shop and coffee with mum!

Now a lot of my must dos seem to centre around food – but I suppose that is just how most of my life is – I certainly live to eat, not eat to live! I’ll have some updates on how my Perth adventures go over the weekend soon.

an exciting long weekend ahead!

There are a multitude of things happening this long weekend – I am excited for the next two hours to pass and for it to begin (I am taking tomorrow off work, so my weekend begins soon!).

Tonight I am heading out to the shops in the search for a suit. Now I have worked in a corporate environment for over two years now, but never really worn suits. I usually find them stuffy, unimaginative and restrictive. Tomorrow however I have an interview for a job I’d love to get so I think I need to (in the words of Barney Stinson) SUIT UP! I plan to hit both the high and low end stores (of what Northlands Shopping Centre has to offer) and see what I can get – I am hoping I can get something quite versatile and unique, especially if I am paying a bit for it. If nothing too exciting comes up, I might search for some Target suit type things and dress it up with a good top, I just don’t feel I can justify a lot of money on a boring suit – so it neither needs to be awesome and I’ll pay a bit more for it, or a cheap, but ok boring suit. So that’s tonight’s search planned.

Tomorrow I’ll then have two priorities;

  1. preping for the interview, both in rehearsing some answers, memorising my CV, ensuring my hair is behaving, and double checking how to get there
  2. Giving my house a top to bottom clean and tidy. I have an old friend from Perth (who has now moved to Canberra) coming down for the long weekend and I’ll be picking him up after my interview – I am a tad of a clean freak at the best of times, but when visitors arrive I it’s a whole new level of cleanliness.

Luckily after the mad rush of cleaning and the stress of the interview drinks are planned for the evening – hopefully I will be drinking to how well the interview went (fingers crossed!!)

Then for the rest of the long weekend my laundry is finally getting tiled! After a mishap (of my doing – whoops!) left my floorboards mis-shaped and warped I am finally getting the floorboards ripped up in the laundry section and tiles put down, to prevent it ever happening again! I will still have some damaged floorboards outside the laundry, but that repair needs some more money saving before it can go ahead (damn floorboards being so expensive!).

I am also very much looking forward to the Vogue Melbourne Supper Club meet on Saturday night – I am a tad nervous of meeting so many new people at once, but I am also really excited – what could be better than a night out with Vogue girls that love food!

I will be sure to update you all on the happenings as they go by – especially the before and afters of my laundry. Cheerio!
