borsch, vodka and tears

As mentioned last week – I had booked borsch, vodka and tears for my birthday dinner last night – and boy was it a-mah-zing!

I am just going to get right into the photos:

my outfit for the night (sass and bide belt courtesy of my lovely sister)

the menu

salt and pepper squid with a beautifully spiced aioli. Please note my sister’s awesome bone necklace which sneaks into the shot – she works for sass & bide and has the most amazing wardrobe (hence the sass & bide belt I borrowed)

bigos – traditional hunter’s sauerkraut and smoked meat stew. Ok I know this doesn’t look very good, but this was one of my favourite dishes. I am a sucker for sauerkraut so it was absolutely delicious!

saganaki – you can’t really go wrong with fried cheese!

pierogi – polish dumplings. I loved these! We went with the meat filling and they were beautifully spiced and tasty.

honey vodka prawns. I am not a big prawn eater, but the sauce on these prawns was fantastic, there was a hint of coriander I think which gave them a refreshing tang.

and finally - potato blintzes (thanks for the rec Gillian – they were amazing!)

I really couldn’t fault much from Borsch, Vodka and tears – the wait staff were quick and efficient, the drinks were well made, the food was delicious – and it was a beautiful Melbourne summers night. All in all a perfect night for a great birthday.

Casino Royale – Revisited

The official photographer from the Casino Royale function on Friday has sent through all the shots from the night – and they do a much better job of capturing my outfit for the night.

Please ignore the silly pose – not sure what is going on there, but it is the only shot with my full outfit.

celebrity rehab – another round of costumes

So it seems that themed parties are the rage at the moment. I am going to another themed event on Saturday this weekend (going to be costuming it up this weekend). This one is themed Celebrity Rehab – which is a new one for me, haven’t heard of, or been to, one of this nature before. Thankfully I have narrowed down all my possibilities and have decided already what to wear. I am going to channel Amy Winehouse – but in a slightly classier way (I want to still look good!):

Amy tends to favour a white tank top and a bright bra, so I have used this as the basis of my costume. I will also have to go heavy on the eye makeup – but I might skip trying to replicate the hair. I’ll have to grab shots of the finished product on Saturday for you!

playing with my new tripod

So my new tripod arrived in the post – hoorah! I had a play this morning trying to capture my outfit – at least now with a tripod I go move away from photos in the mirror. Below are my first few shots with my tripod – they aren’t great yet, but I am sure it will take a bit of practice to get it perfect.

sportsgirl striped tee, supre singlet underneath, cheap monday jeans, misc. wedges, asos pearl necklace. (I am also wearing born with it lipstick by maybelline)

Let me know if you have any tips on using a camera with a tripod.

dress me up – all good things in threes

For the first dress me up I decided to list a trio of trios of things I am currently coveting. My wardrobe at the moment is lacking mostly in the quirky accessories (hats), great jackets, and shoes in colours other than black or nude.

weekend outfit

Had fun playing with a coral lipstick on the weekend – added a bit of punch to otherwise dreary coloured outfit. Feeling the pain of Monday morning today – with the winter chill definitely upon us Bailey is sleeping closer and closer, and unfortunately this makes it hard to get a good nights sleep, might have to bite the bullet and be the mean owner and kick him out for a night, almost falling asleep at my desk here. Has anyone else had experience with this?

Hope all your weekends went well!

night out and a ring

I’ve got a few photos from the past few days:

This was my outfit for my night out on Saturday – sportsgirl lace tank, portmans leather skirt, asos leopard print belt, myer wedges (target trench thrown on to brave the cold). Please excuse the mess, my room always looks like a bomb hit it when I am getting ready.

My new asos ring. I don’t usually wear many rings (mostly because I spend most of the time I have them on fiddling with them) but I love the simplicity of this one – hoping to keep it as my go-to everyday ring.
