costume updates

Last night I headed out to Northlands for some late night shopping, to grab the last bis & pieces for my costumes this weekend. For tonight’s James Bond themed event I have narrowed it down to either Oddjob, or Emilio Largo (No. 2). I had all the pieces to make up Oddjob, but I needed a white blazer and an eye patch for Emilio Largo. I managed to score a white blazer at valleygirl, but the eye patch was much more difficult to find. I thought Toys R Us would definitely have an eye patch – for kids wanting to dress up as pirates – but they only had disney movie costumes. I eventually had to make a separate trip to Spotlight to find one, and even then the eye patch has a skull and cross-bones on it, so I am going to have to do some DIY-ing tonight and cover it in some black fabric.

My Amy Winehouse pieces were much easier to find. I headed to target to buy some jeans (they were having 30% off denim) and I plan to fray and distress them tonight. I managed to score a $6 Bonds Chesty from Kmart, and heavy eyeliner from Priceline.

Looking forward to putting all these pieces together – I will snap some shots of the full outfits tonight and tomorrow.

first outfit post!

So today is my first outfit post! I finally got around to taking a photo of my outfit for the night. Last night Phil and I headed to a Czech restaurant in Collingwood for dinner, and although it wasn’t all that fancy, I felt like dressing up for the night:

target trench, kookai tank, portmans leather skirt, lipstick shoes (belt and bag are very old, can’t remember where they were from)

The Czech restaurant was tasty – and really quiet. More on that later.

so out went the shopping ban

So my shopping ban lasted 19 days! How pathetic! I actually feel like putting a total ban on myself made me feel like splurging more – like when you swear off all junk food, you end up just gorging on mcdonalds! I headed to Northlands on saturday morning to seek out a present for my brother’s bday (which I didn’t end up finding btw), and came out with three bags of new purchases…whoops. I ended up getting:

  • forever new blush peg leg trousers
  • forever new silk cream blouse
  • target camel short trench
  • target khaki long shirt
  • lovisa neutral necklace
  • lovisa ring

At least I can cross off the trench off my winter wishlist… I’ll hopefully be able to update with pictures soon.

weekend happenings

This weekend has been full of bits and pieces – nothing too much to note, but a few mini adventures along the way.

On Saturday morning Phil and I headed to breakfast at Minimo on Sydney Road in Brunswick. We both had eggs with hollandaise – however mine with prosciutto and his with smoked salmon.

Yum!

I also managed to frame the four pieces of japanese paper I bought on my trip at the beginning of the year. They are now hanging in my hallway at the top of the stairs.

cushions and mail

As promised here are the new cushion additions to my couch:

I also managed to nab this cute mail holder for my hallway from Typo (which was having 20% off!)

On the weekend gone by I managed to borrow a ladder from a friend, so I got to fix up my tissue paper pom-poms above my bed, I also added a few more to the bunch.

cushions galore

I went to Northlands Shopping Centre VIP night last night – and happened to pop into Target. I then discovered that for yesterday night only they were having 50% off all cushions!! I may have gone a little cushion crazy. No photos yet – but I will snap some tonight…beware, there will be a lot of cushions.

the days that have been

So the weekend began with me picking up my mum from the airport on the Saturday – and a very relaxing rest of the day. Sunday morning I decided to take my mum to one of cheap eats fantastic small breakfast eateries, from scratch in Thornbury. As usual I had the eggs florentine, mum had the cafe breakfast, whilst Phil went for a BLAT sandwich.

On Monday I had a work dinner at the Palm Sugar in Richmond – and it was tasty! We opted for the banquet dinner for ease of ordering and we started with 6 mixed dumplings:

and then the mains were a mixed of amazing thai meals – I only managed to photograph one of them before everyone tucked in:

I highly recommend the Palm Sugar – the service and food was amazing!

I was also lucky enough to get a present from mum for my garden – a gorgeous metal sculpture for the wall outside – a great find from Target.

And just one for my mum – Bailey says hi!

home sweet home

It’s been a quiet week at work so I’ve been using this spare time to delve deeper into how to decorate my house. My major concern was the furniture placement in my kitchen/living/dining room, which happened to be one long room. I searched high and low on the internet, but none of the solutions worked for my space – so I ended up sending my question into Apartment Therapy, the wonderful blog which explores living big in small spaces. To my surprise they posted my question and there has already been 12 responses on how I should layout my furniture. You can view the page here. The suggestions have definitely given me some food for thought, I might be moving some furniture around this weekend.

I also finally made my way to the Target home sale yesterday and purchased a nicely discounted white wooden star like wall decoration. I was going to paint it red to match some of my cushions in my living room, however I then saw the same piece in a decorating blog hung on the wall still white, and now I’m torn between what colour, leave it white or paint it red?

Looking forward to the wkend - hopefully headed out to see some comedy tonight at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. And then it’s only a hop skip and a jump until next Wednesday when I’ll be on a plane back home to perth (that is if I can leave my poor bailey at the kennels without too much drama!)
