a bit of a recap

So the past few days have been a bit hectic – so I decided to do a bit of a photo recap:

I discovered an awesome food truck when I headed to Preston Markets on Friday evening. Cornutopia is heading around for the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival and if you can I would hunt them down and order anything off their menu – it was absolutely delicious  and cheap! I scored an ‘el taco’ for $5.

My floors were finally finished! And I got to rearrange my furniture again (love to move things around). Now I am just living in constant fear of scratching my new floors – I think I need to invest in some rugs.

Bought some beautiful flowers at my local 24 hour flower shop (can’t believe there is a demand for 24 hour flowers – but I am not complaining). Cost me only $6 – love my neighbourhood!

Enjoyed Sunday morning cuddles.

How’d your weekend go? Hopefully none of you are affected by this crazy flooding and rain.

the weekend

And the weekend is nearly over…sigh. Sunday evenings are always filled with a slight melancholy of knowing it is back to work tomorrow, but at least, looking back, it has been a good weekend.

A snapshot of what I got up to:

Just before hometime on Friday I got my delivery from the Book Depository – I had purchased a week earlier Thai Food by David Thompson, which is supposed to be the quintessential Thai cookbook, and after a quick look through this weekend it is definitely thorough. The book goes through a lot of the history of Thailand, as well as the workings of Thai kitchens before it even gets to the recipes. I like having this background, especially since I am headed to Thailand early next year. I am going to have to try to pick one recipe to try (due the quantity in the book it will be a challenge).

After an intensely stressful work week, I decided to end it by popping into the new Ikea in Springvale (just around the corner from my work). The place is massive, apparently it is the size of two MCGs – just insane. I didn’t end up buying much, but I did grab a few cheap vases for around the house.

I can cross #20 off my 24 before 24 – I finally got around to folding the cranes to fill my vase. I also stopped off at a florist today and brought some colour inside with these beautiful flowers.

Tonight I made another meal from Jamie Oliver’s 30 minute meals - Piri Piri chicken, rocket salad and dressed potatoes. I just finished eating it 30 minutes ago and it was delish! The combination of the three components worked really well, even the rocket salad, which I was sceptical about as it was literally just rocket, lemon juice, olive oil and salt – not what I would traditionally call a salad but a great accompaniment none the less. The hero of this meal was definitely the potatoes, the flavours of the feta, chilli and coriander were a refreshing change to usual mashed potatoes.

The rest of the weekend was filled with cleaning (mum coming to stay next week), braving the cold for a night out dancing and also some subsequent recovery napping…

Hope you all had a great weekend – much happening for the week ahead?

the weekend round-up

What a beautiful weekend! The weather was perfect here in Melbourne – a real taste of the summer to come. Luckily I managed to have recovered somewhat from the cold that struck me down mid-week, so I squeezed in a lot of the past few days.

Friday was work drinks with the girls – I had exhausted most of my going out outfits recently, so I did a dig to the back of the closet and pulled out this number that has served me well over the years:

Paired with a denim jacket I was feeling all sorts of 90s cool. The night started out at Sweatshop – which always provides great entertainment via the list of ‘firsts’ written on its walls:

and then we moved onto The Croft Institute, which had some awesome street art on the alley on the way:

and where we indulged in a Honey & Apple drink that was to be drunk with syringes:

The night then lead us to a few quick pit stops whilst we picked up more people to our crew and then ending up at the Toff of the Town for some late night dancing.

Saturday was a beautiful rooftop lunch with my sister at The Local Taphouse (another cheap eats find) in St.Kilda. We both ended up ordering a delicious beer burger with fried onion rings, hand cut chips and aioli – it was to die for!

All washed down with some pear cider it was the perfect afternoon.

Saturday night was another night out with dinner and drinks at the Vic in Abbotsford, and then onto the Corner Hotel to see Eagle & the Worm (who were amazing – there really aren’t enough brass sections in bands these days), and then onto The Rochester for some dancing. Unfortunately no pics to accompany that night as the bag didn’t allow to bring a camera in tow.

Sunday I was awoken to another beautiful day and it was spent lazing about at home enjoying the sunshine on my back deck.

And now it is Monday again and I am eagerly counting down the days until I am off to Perth this Thursday.

How was your weekend?

happy friday all!

…and once again it is Friday. Isn’t it strange how the week which once seemed to be going on forever is now so close to being over! From what was going to be an extremely low-key, do nothing weekend at the beginning of the week, suddenly I have a chock-a-block few days ahead.

Tonight is going to be a very girly night of takeout, wine and Britain’s Next Top Model. My friend has just had a crazy week, between work and buying a house we have a lot to catch up on.

Tomorrow should be a catch-up with my sister. She has been under the weather lately, so hopefully she is feeling up for a meet up in the city, which is sure to include lunch and shopping (or window shopping in my case).

Then Saturday night is out on the town for a work friend’s birthday – one of the biggest perks of my new job over my old job are the colleagues that are close to my age, it makes the working day and the weekends so much more enjoyable when you can relate with them during work, and then go out and party after work.

Sunday is looking to be a day of recovery, chores and getting ready for the week ahead . What are your plans for the weekend?

weekend updates

And it is Monday again – sigh!

The weekend went by all too quickly. Some highlights of the weekend include:

rocking an arm party a la The Man Repeller

being asked to stay home by bailey (note the red – managed to score some red jeans at cotton on for a steal)

visited the art of brick exhibition in the city – I was quite disappointed actually, not at the quality of the work, it was amazing, but there just weren’t that many pieces, I was in and out of there in 10 minutes tops!

How was your weekend?

happy friday – or thank god the week is nearly over

Happy Friday all! It is finally nearly the end of what has seemed like a never-ending week.

This week saw the return of me to booty camp – which I am so grateful for. I forgot how much I actually enjoyed it and I can’t believe I left it so long before starting up again. We did boxing last night which I loved! I might actually look into doing a few sessions out side of boot camp to up my exercise levels – twice a week probably isn’t enough.

The weekend doesn’t hold too many plans. I am veging out at a friend’s place night over takeout and movies, and then for tomorrow night I have a Christmas in July party – which means Saturday morning will be spent trying to find something green or red to wear.

What are your plans for the weekend? Are you taking advantage of this beautiful Melbourne weather?

weekend!

Hi all! Hope you weekend has gotten onto a good start. I don’t have too much planned for this weekend – and I am quite excited about it!

Today is going to be a laze about day getting the chores out the way before heading out for dinner and harry potter with my sis and some of my friends. (photos will follow)

Tomorrow is also more lazing about – I am also going to try to head to federation square to view the Lego exhibition that is on at the moment – I am probably too excited about this for a 23 year old – but who doesn’t love lego!!

Hope you all have exciting plans for the weekend (or are excited about the lack of plans)!

weekend updates

On Friday night I rushed out the house to get to my Casino Royale party on time, I was only able to grab the below shot of my outfit before I left.

I ended up going with Emilio Largo, and the eye patch. It was a big hit and I headed up coming runner-up in the costume competition!

In other weekend news I have spent a lot of in bed snuggled up with Bailey recovering from my night-time adventures:

Hope you all had a good weekend!

hankering for the weekend

For a short week it has been a rather stressful one – and as such I am very much looking forward to the weekend. Plans for the weekend so far include:

  • My very first shift at the Pets Haven animal shelter tomorrow morning. I am very excited to spend some time with the kittens and cats, the hard part will be making sure I don’t come home with one. This will also cross off #12 in my 24 before 24 list.
  • A cooking class at the Victoria Markets. I have just booked in for an Indian cooking class at the markets Sunday afternoon – hopefully I can sample some very tasty treats.
And that is about it! Probably some menial chores will be in there as well, and maybe some dinner plans – but hopefully a quieter weekend to recover from my week. Do you have any exciting plans for the weekend?
